Sentate Bill 54: Call 1-844-336-0046 to support Senate Bill 54, The California Values Act. This Act ensures that state and local resources are not used to fuel mass deportations and separate families. It is now the single most important piece of legislation in response to the Trump administration's cruel anti–immmigrant policies.
- Read the full text of SB54 here.
- The bill has passed the California Senate, but requires passage by the Assembly, and then Governor Brown's signature. The Governor is considering serious changes to the bill that would dilute its importance significantly. But pressure from us, urging him to do the right thing, can help to sway him.
- Call 1-844-336-0046. This will lead you to Governor Brown, or to a target assemblymember.
- Sample script: "Hello, my name is ___, and I'm from ___. I'm calling to ask you to support the California Values Act, SB 54, so that California can continue to lead the way in protecting our immigrant communities. It's the practical thing to do, and it's the RIGHT THING TO DO!
- Mobilize in Sacramento on September 7 to support SB 54! ACLU of San Diego may be organizing busses to Sacramento, so check back here, or contact ACLU at 619-232-2121
Border Wall Resolution: Write or call your City Councilmember and Mayor Faulconer to express your support for Councilmember Georgette Gomez's Resolution in Opposition to the Border Wall. In July, 2017, Councilmember Georgette Gomez asked the City Council to approve her resolution to oppose the construction of a wall along the US–Mexico border. The vote will occur on September 19. As San Diegans, we are uniquely and powerfully positioned to let the nation know that we opposed costly, impractical and morally bankrupt project.
- Attend the September 19 City Council Meeting (2pm) to show your support for Gomez's resolution. She has specifically asked members of the community to show up in force! Location: City Administration Building, 12th Floor, 202 "C" Street in downtown San Diego.
- Write or call your City Councilmember and Mayor Faulconer to express your support of Councilmember Gomez's resolution. Phone call or postcard script: I urge you to support Council member Gomez's resolution in opposition to the border wall because:
- The majority of Americans, the majority of San Diegans and the San Diego Chamber of Commerce are opposed to expanding the wall
- It will needlessly increase tensions with Mexico, endangering San Diegos trade, cultural, physical and economic relationships with our neighbor to the south
- It will be a huge waste of tax payer money
- It will cause environmental damage
- It's the right thing to do!
